- A tooth abscess is a pocket of pus caused by a bacterial infection. The abscess can appear in different areas of the tooth for a variety of reasons. A periapical abscess (per-e-AP-ih-kul) occurs at the end of the root, while a periodontal abscess (per-eo-DON-tul) occurs in the gum on the side of a tooth root. The information here relates specifically to periapical abscesses.
A periapical tooth abscess usually occurs as a result of untreated tooth decay, injury, or previous dental work.
Dentists treat an abscessed tooth by draining it and removing the infection. You may be able to save your tooth with a root canal treatment, but in some cases the tooth may need to be removed. If an abscessed tooth is left untreated, it can lead to serious complications and even death. Tooth abscess Treatment in Nizamabad
