Varicose veins are the swollen, enlarged veins that appear close to the surface of the skin. They are usually dark blue or purple in color. Any vein can become varicose, but most commonly affected veins are those found in the legs and feet. This usually happen because standing and walking upright increases pressure in the veins of the lower body which causes malfunction of the veins and results in varicose veins.
Varicose Veins May Indicate More Serious Problems
Most varicose veins are not a serious condition but they may cause aching Painless and in certain instances can also lead to more serious conditions. Varicose veins can also be a symptom that indicates a higher risk of other circulatory system disorders.
Different Cause of Varicose Veins You Should Know
Before seeking treatment, one needs to know what causes varicose veins. The organ that pumps blood to all parts of the body is the heart, which then requires blood vessels to transport the blood to various parts of the body as well as back to the heart.
Although arteries transport blood from the heart to all parts of the body, it is the veins that carry blood back to the heart to be re-oxygenated. These vessels work continuously throughout our lifetime, and any problem in the function of the vessels can lead to some types of diseases and can also be the cause of varicose veins.
The Causes Of Varicose Veins
Some factors that can be considered a cause of varicose veins, include heredity, hormonal abnormalities, long periods of standing or sitting, and pregnancy. Before a suitable treatment can be suggested, it is necessary to determine the cause of varicose veins.
Obesity can also be one of the causes of varicose veins. This occurs because the extra weight usually causes strain on the legs of obese people. We should always maintain average body weight to reduction the chance of getting varicose veins.
Exercising regularly is also a good idea, as it will help improve blood circulation. One simple exercise you can do regularly is walking or jogging.
Deep vein thrombosis is another cause of varicose veins which leads to the veins becoming blue or dark purple in color. Varicose veins usually occur when the valves in the veins fail because of aging or the veins losing elasticity. This cause blood to pool in the veins and become varicose.
Another cause of varicose veins is hereditary, as the risk of getting varicose veins for women with a family history of varicose veins are greater than others.
One rare cause of varicose veins is overexposure to the sun. Too much sun may cause varicose veins on our face. To reduction chances of getting varicose veins, one should limit exposure to the harmful effects of the sun, maintain body weight and healthy diet and exercise regularly.

Varicose Veins – Causes and Treatments
Varicose veins are enlarged, discolored veins. They appear swollen and twisted. Varicose veins are typically 3 millimeters or more in diameter. They are commonly found on the backs of the calves or on the thighs. Varicose veins are often Painlessful and itchy. Scratching them can cause open sores to appear. Varicose veins occur more frequently with women than men and with people over the age of 50. Despite the best efforts of researchers, the exact cause of varicose veins still remains a mystery, but there are some theories.
A person who is overweight passes the additional weight in the abdominal muscle to the leg veins, which causes the veins to enlarge. In most cases varicose veins are found in the legs, which suggests that this condition comes from standing for long periods of time.
Veins have valves that prevent the blood from flowing backwards as it moves up the legs. In a varicose vein, however, this valves fail or become weak and result in blood going away from the heart and leaking back into the vein and collect there. This pooled blood enlarges and stretches the vein and it becomes varicose.
Weak vein walls can cause the vein to stretch and this can cause the vein valve to malfunction. This tends to occur with women who are pregnant, or on their period, because they produce hormones that can weaken the vein walls.
It appears that varicose veins are hereditary. Studies have shown that people who have family members that have varicose veins are more likely to get it. Weak veins and walls may also be inherited characteristics.
Arterio-Venous shunts can weaken the vein walls because it helps bypass the capillaries, which keeps the high blood pressure of the arteries from overwhelming the veins. The hormones created during puberty, pregnancy and menopause can create Arterio-Venous shunts.
Researchers have not been able to determine a cure for varicose veins, but there are treatments that can alleviate some of the problems of varicose veins Alwal.
Surgery can be used to treat severe varicose veins. This technique is called vein stripping. This is usually done under local or partial anesthesia. This surgery involves inserting a flexible implement through the varicose vein. When the implement is takenn out, the varicose vein is removed with it.
There are two endovenous Surgerys that can be used to remove severe varicose veins in the legs or thighs. These techniques are less invasive than vein stripping and do not require an overnight stay. Both Surgerys require the insertion of a device inside the varicose vein. The endovenous radio frequency closure Surgery uses a catheter to transmit radio frequency energy to seal the varicose vein. The endovenous laser Surgery uses a diode laser to transmit laser energy to seal the varicose vein. In both cases, the varicose vein will turn into scar tissue and eventually fade away in several weeks. After either Surgery, a person could resume his or her normal routine the very next day.
The most common treatment used to eliminate severe varicose veins is sclerotherapy. This Surgery requires no anesthesia and does not require an overnight stay. A solution such as sodium tetradecyl sulfate, hypertonic saline, or aethoxyskerol is injected into the varicose vein. This solution will seal the vein walls and stop the blood flow. Then the varicose vein will turn into scar tissue and eventually fade away in several weeks. Additional treatments may be required for some cases.

Varicose veins are found in both men and women. There’s a common misconception that women suffer more than men, although some research and studies have indicated that men, in fact, are more affected by large varicose veins than women.
One reason for this misconception may be that some men are less likely than women to seek treatment for various health conditions, and some data collections are based on the number of patients with the condition that are examined by healthcare providers. The veins may even be more difficult to see on men than on women, as men tend wear long pants more than women, and have more hair their legs that may cover up the condition to an extent. While many believe that men and women are equally affected by varicose veins, there are still those who hold that women are more affected.
Many women are first affected by the venous condition during pregnancy. With the uterus growing, increased pressure is put on the inferior vena cava, which is the large vein on the right side of the body. As a result, this puts added pressure on the veins in the legs, which may lead to varicose veins. Many women, especially those who did not have vein problems before pregnancy, report that their varicose-veins improve after giving birth. If they don’t improve, certain treatments may be helpful in providing relief.
Varicose veins appear as bulging and purplish and are considered very unsightly by many individuals. Physical symptoms of varicose-veins may include aching, a burning sensation, swollen ankles, charley horse and night cramps. Individuals suffering from this may also complain of Painless after prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
Types of Veins Treatments
Treatments may begin with the use of compression stockings and various home remedies such as elevating the legs, weight loss and exercise. If this methods are unsuccessful, other treatments or Surgerys may be used to bring relief. It is important to determine whether one is suffering from spider veins or varicose veins, as treatment may differ depending on the diagnosis. Some treatments are used for both conditions, while others are specific to either type of vein condition.

Varicose Veins – 4 Main Causes of Varicose Veins
Varicose veins are a health condition, which affects several individuals in the world at large. These are simply disclosed and enlarged veins which when examined, they appear swollen and twisted. The diameter of this type of a vein is not less than three millimeters. This problem mainly affects the calves and in most cases they appear at the back of the calves or on the thighs. These veins are very itchy and Painlessful thus they lead to discomfort. They can also cause open sores when scratched. This problem does not only affect the calves but also human beings especially the individuals who are above fifty years of age.
This is a problem that has affected both men and women over many years but its cause is still not clear to date though several mysteries have been thought to be the cause.
Supposed causes of varicose veins are:
1) Generally, a vein in the body has all the valves that prevent the blood from lowing back. It has been proven that in varicose veins, such valves fail to perform therefore the blood can flow back as it moves up the legs. This forces the blood to collect at that point and in turn, it enlarges and causes varicose.
2) Some researcher’s reports reveal that overweight individuals may pass their abdominal weight to the veins in their legs. If this happens, the leg veins will be forced to increase in size and cause a varicose. Generally, the varicose veins are always found in the legs and this may be as a result of standing for a long time.
3) It may be a hereditary problem. According to the health reports, most of the individuals who have relatives who have suffered from varicose vein disorder have high chances of getting the disease.
4) It is also true that a vein can be forced to stretch due to weak walls. If the veins are forced to stretch, the valves may become weak and fail to perform which can in turn lead to a varicose. This problem is prone to pregnant women. It can also occur in women during their menstruation period due to the hormones that are produced. These hormones can weaken the vein walls.
